Through a project we did to redesign a website for a mobile travel app, we saw how fast the AMP landing page loads, driving more mobile views and app installs.
If you’re not familiar with Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), it’s an open-source project aimed at allowing mobile website content to render nearly instantly from Google search. iiD was excited to launch KDDI’s website https://japanfreewifi.com to improve awareness in the U.S. and across Asia in order to drive app installs. Besides being a well designed responsive site, we developed AMP pages for high-speed mobile viewing, improved SEO, and increased mobile app installs. See below:
The really exciting thing about this new site was seeing how fast the AMP page loads from a mobile search in Google. A long scrolling, graphically-rich page loads in the Google AMP Viewer in only 1 second due to Google AMP Cache.
According to Google, 53% of mobile site visits are abandoned if pages take longer than 3 seconds to load. AMP pages are clearly the best solution for mobile app download sites with users primarily searching on mobile.
