iiD is going old school this week for its own business development activities. We’ve been writing and sending off loads of iiD branded postcards to VPs and directors at agencies and companies around SF to get the word out that iiD has opened up shop. As with our business cards, we’ve included a QR code leading to our About Us page. Interesting, to make this possible we’re using Redbooks.com and Linkedin to access these two data bases and learn more about the potential partner-clients before committing a 29 cent stamp. In the process, we’re learning a lot about the industry make up and the sort of talent brimming over in SF. Learning about the PR firms that we’d like to partner with has been insightful as they have such a different organizational structure to an advertising or digital agency that we’re used to (many have an MD and a house full of account directors.) The plan is to then follow up the DMs with Linkedin invites, emails and eventually meetings. This may seem a bit clunky for a 21st century digital agency to be up to but let me just say that sometimes handwriting a message and address cuts through the noise in people’s inboxes. I’ll keep you updated on the success of our first inhouse DM campaign.
